For one night only, the library won’t help you find the answers. But that won’t stop us from asking plenty of tough questions.
Pre-register for $75 per team of up to 6 adults. Cash prize to the top 3 teams! Limited space, register early at any Calvert Library location! Must pay to be considered registered.

$5 per spectator by separate registration. Only 20 spaces for spectators!

Friends of Calvert Library fundraiser. Wine and beer are $5, snacks are free.

Evolution of the Chesapeake Bay (North Beach Town Hall)

Sinking Lands and Rising Seas: Climate Change and Evolution of Chesapeake Bay. Dr. Ralph Eshelman will discuss land subsidence, sea level rise, wave erosion and briefly the expansion and decline of continental ice (most of which is in Antarctica) that has effected sea level in the past and what this means for the future. Discussion includes the effects on archeological sites including historic structures, graveyards and pre-historic sites. Co-sponsored by the Bayside History Museum.

The Mobile Health Center travels to under-served areas of the community to bring essential primary care services, dental, prevention and wellness programs to residents who may not have easy access to traditional health care.

In March a dietitian will be with the vehicle.

Final event in the series. Come prepared for debate, readers' theater, battle rap or whatever way you'd like to bring history to life and to connect it to today's world. Use Revisiting the Founding Era readings as your inspiration (link below). This program is part of Revisiting the Founding Era, a three-year national initiative of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History presented in partnership with the American Library Association and the National Constitution Center, with generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Mulatto, the Black History of Calvert County (North Beach Town Hall)

Michael Kent will present a lecture based on his manuscript, Mulatto, the Black History of Calvert County. The manuscript spans his family's presence here in Calvert from 1780 through the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's. This talk will encompass a portion of the slave era and the formation of churches and schools after slavery. Co-sponsored by the Bayside History Museum.

Celebrate Women's History Month! Shemika Berry will present a living history on the life of Phillis Wheatley, the first published African-American poet.

"Born in Africa in 1753, Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped at the age of seven and sold into slavery. At nineteen, she became the first black American poet to publish a book, Poems on Various Subjects: Religious and Moral. Wheatley's poetry created a sensation throughout the English-speaking world." - Amazon
